Ever since my first trip to Paris eons ago, I've been going to Cafe Angelina for their famous African hot chocolate served with Chantilly cream. They offer a wide variety of French pastries and typical cafe items. On my first trip I bought their famous African chocolate shavings to bring back and make my own hot chocolate. Sadly it wasn't nearly as good because I'm sure they slow churn the chocolate at the cafe to give that velvety thick texture. When you make it at home it is so watery. Now they actually sell the chocolate drink in a bottle. I've bought some but haven't had a chance to drink them yet. The consistency looks more like what's served at the cafe.
The African hot chocolate is delicious but it can be a lot of sweetness in one sitting. Now I tend to just share it with someone so that I don't get sweeted out. I've been a few times in summer and I now get the iced African chocolate that's not as overwhelming. It is still sweet but very refreshing in the heat. I feel the hot chocolate is more filling than the iced chocolate but when it is hot outside, I'd definitely recommend the iced to cool down and relax. Personally I love their decor that gives me this majestic and nostalgic feeling. My favorite location is the one near the Louvre where you can also peruse around for some great scenery and photo ops. ^_~

Ms. Lin Guide needed to find a place with wi-fi nearby and Royal Tea for the bill. The staff seemed friendly. They offer a happy hour after 6 pm but we were too early. I wanted to utilize the deal as they offer my favorite salted cheese. Ms. Lin Guide did get a drink and it was just so-so. Even though we were there long enough to reach happy hour, I did not buy a drink.
However, I did try their egg puff because they offered cheese and other interesting toppings as add-ons. At first I though the cheese was on top and it turned out the cheese is placed inside. Unfortunately it wasn't really cheeses and you can barely taste the difference. The egg puff was so-so. I do like message on their back wall and they do have a variety of games available for their clients, but I feel most Asian tea places offer this as well. Overall it is just an okay place, I'd rather go to other tea places nearby.

Looking for some tea with real fruits? Elephant Tea offers a variety of teas to choose from. Their signature Elephant fruit tea is a passion fruit tea filled with fresh fruits. When I say 'filled', I really mean filled! Lol if you take out just one slice of the watermelon, the amount of tea goes down by 20% and they have two slices in there. The funniest part was that they even put a baby tomato inside. Ms. Lin Guide and I were a little befuddled but had a good laugh.
They offer free wi-fi and the staff was pretty friendly. I liked their cute decor. It has a nice relaxing atmosphere and hip feeling. A good place for friends together and chat.
The drink itself was not bad but not worth the price. I liked their huge square cups and that the fork was attached. They definitely used fresh ingredients and even fresh passion fruit. If only there was more to drink. After eating all the fruits there's barely any drink left. Even though the fruit might be more expensive, I personally rather have more of the drink honestly.

As I mentioned before, I'm very into drinks that come in cool bottles! Even though I was on crutches, I still made my way to Icy Cream Roll because of their fun drinks. They were very busy at night so I went again in the day time and it was a much shorter wait.
They offer 'butterfly' teas that are blue and beautifully colored together with their lemonades. The bottles are actually really fun because it serves as an infused as well. You scan unscrew the top from the bottom and see the separation. The drinks are beautiful and fun when you mix the colors together. Alas, the drinks themselves are not very good... Which is too bad because I love the bottle!
Another trend are ice cream rolls, which they offer as well. For those who dare, they offer durian here and it is pretty flavorful.
All in all the decor is super cute with ice cubes as seats on astro turf. They also have a neon lit hallway to the bathroom that's great for photo ops. Lots of fun stuff to take pictures of here. If only the drinks were better, I'd go back. It's more of a one time fun trip rather than any place I'd frequent.

On our most recent short trip to Vegas, I wanted to take the time to check out the M&M and Coca Cola store. It's been so long since I've visited the M&M store and I had find memories of the Coca Cola Museum in Atlanta. Both stores were designed purely for fun and shopping. So if you like the respective brands and products then you will love it.
What I really wanted to do was taste the World of Coca Cola and see what other flavors are floating around the world. Whilst in line we were attracted to the delectable floats! I think we were a little confused on the sodas that came with the float as you can't choose. Warning: they come with regular US soda and not the international sodas. There is 3 set options : international soda, float, and a combo of both. If you want the fun international flavors then choose the first set, but if you want ice cream the choose the float set. I wish we chose the combo of both because I really wanted to taste the international sodas! Why don't they make an international float set? That would be the best of both worlds! Still the float set we got was a lot of fun and imaginative. A lot of combos that I would never have tried. We all agreed that the traditional root beer float still tastes the best together as it is such a classic combo :D.
Beware of the scary bear and photos the offer! I thought it was an online thing you can retrieve but it's like a Disneyland ride photo to make you purchase, MINUS the ride lol. Still it was kind of fun and now I can say I was 'bitten' by a bear lol. Needless to say.... I bought the photo package. **hanging head down in shame** The gimmick works! Lol

Roasting Water has been one of my favorite new go to milk tea places because of their awesomely cute/beautiful bottles! It's become one of my hobbies to get my drinks with the special glass and many places have started this trend. The best thing about Roasting Water is that all their drinks come in their bottles. There's no extra charge and the prices are very reasonable.
As part of their store decor, they use super cute cups that make you want to buy or take tons of photos. Sadly, those cups are not for sale ;(. They've recently caught on that it would be lucrative to sell all these cute cups! So some are available and some are limited items that come with regular milk tea. I totally bought the gimmick and bought the super expensive cups/containers lol. If you go, try the smoothies and fun tea combos. If you just want tons of their bottles, you can cheat and buy their Vietnamese coffee like I do since they are one of the cheaper items that still tastes great.
A good and bad thing is that they often change their bottles so if you see a previous design that you liked, it may be gone in a flash! These mermaid bottles were from a while back and they were quite beautiful. They use to do glass bottles with wooden corks but now they use plastic bottles. I kind of missed the glass bottles, even though the kids were not too tight.

Gourmet Pigs gave me a few choices to meet up and I decided to choose Mr. Matcha because of the name. Ever since Japan I've been craving matcha so I thought this was the perfect place. Then I went online to look at what they served. At first I was kind of disappointed in the choices but I was glad to be proven wrong :).
I got their matcha and black sesame soft serve in their black cone. The color combo was fun, but most importantly I liked the taste. They claim to serve organic grade A matcha and the flavor was decently strong, unlike some other soft serve places. The black sesame had a nice deep aromatic flavor. I would definitely skip the come next time because if you eat slow it becomes soggy and it has no special flavor. It is great for photos so I decided to get the cone ^_~.

This is my first time back to Taiwan since I was 5 years old and I was super excited at all the possibilities! Needless to say I brought empty suitcases and filled them up to the brim before coming back! lol One of the places that I was most excited to visit was 7 Eleven as I heard it was completely different from what the US offered. There is literally one of these or another chain that is 24/7 every block or half block in Taipei, Taiwan.
I was happy to find out that there was one DIRECTLY across from my hotel and needless to say I was there every day at least once or more. The one thing that I was looking forward to the most was getting my fill on Yakult! I HATE that the US charges a ridiculous CRV on those tiny @$$ bottles, which cannot be recycled! I would be okay with the charge if you could actually recycle it. In Taiwan, there is no such thing as CRV and the drink is so cheap. It's only 8 NT and it was worth it! I probably drank over 30 of those suckers in the short week I was there lol.
The 7 Eleven also offers a variety of prepared foods and what I loved was the onigiris! Cheap and tasty. They are offered as combo meals too, but I didn't quite like the drinks so I just started buying them individually. The onigiris run about 25 NT, which is less than $1! Oh how I already miss Taiwan! lol My favorite flavor was the wasabi salmon.
Each store may offer a slightly different choice. Some offered tea eggs or odens, which was nice. You can purchase a wide variety of snacks and drinks. There are some great instant noodles that you can buy and immediately add hot water to and eat on the spot.
The fun part is you are 'rewarded' for shopping there. They have monthly programs of special items that you can purchase at a discount price once you collect enough stickers. Somehow in the short time we were there, we collected enough stickers and ended up trading it in 4 times to collect the item. Of course all the desirable items like the cute blanket and footwarmer were sold out everywhere, but we still chose something fun. Be sure to check out the 7 Elevens if you've never been to Taiwan. I already miss them! =9

Many people have been anticipating the Hello Kitty Cafe opening at Irvine Spectrum. It's literally just a container with a few tables and some sweet treats plus drinks. Beware : They tend to run out of items quite quickly and the lines can be long. I even went about 1 hr after they opened and a bunch of items were already out. My pal really wanted the Birthday Cake and it was sold out. I wanted the Macarons and of course they were gone too.
Nonetheless there were still other items that I had not tried and decided to do a photo op. =D They had the simple Sugar Cookie Bow and Hello Kitty Pop Tart. I wished they had the other cookie that was Hello Kitty's face, but the bow looked great in selfies around the station. =D The whole point of coming here is for a trip down memory lane plus photo op!
They have a very limited menu that consists mostly of sweet pastries, coffee, lemonades, and teas. Even the bags that they give are super cute. The coffee are nice and strong in flavor. I have yet to have the teas but they look good too. So far I have had the Apple Pie with a cute Hello Kitty cutout on top that was not too bad. Do not order the Strawberry Puff Pastry, there is no Hello Kitty anything on it and it was very bleh! Big mistake =*( The pop tart is decently priced, cute, and actually tastes pretty good. They only had the mixed berry when we went and it was a good mix of sweet berries encased in a soft pastry shell.
Let's be honest, with the Hello Kitty name on top it is not a surprise that everything here is overpriced. You are really paying for the cuteness and not for the taste. That being said... I have been twice and still think it is cute. One day I will get the two items we went there for. Purely on the cuteness, I am definitely willing to go back. If you are not a Hello Kitty/Sanrio fan... then this place is definitely not for you.

The photos for Zero Degrees really caught my eyes. Since Ms. Lin Guide and I was in Rowland Heights for a meal, I had to stop by. The craze now is to have glass bottles to take home and to reuse if you like. Recently I bought my own cold press/slow juicer, these bottles really come in handy at home when I am juicing watermelons. The only gimmick is that the glass bottles hold less liquid compared to their plastic cups, which I thought was a jip for the price you pay...
Hence I bought one bottle and one plastic cup O=D. One souvenir bottle for each was enough. They offer a very small menu to choose from with some interesting concoctions. I decided to try the Matchata (Matcha + Horchata) and Strawberry Mojito. Don't worry there's no alcohol and for those who wish they served alcohol, sorry!
The Matchata was interesting in taste as you can taste the matcha powder with a strong sweet horchata flavor fighting to be the strongest flavor. If you like sweet milky drinks, then this is the drink for you.
I had high hopes for the Strawberry Mojito ever since TP's wedding. The one at Zero Degrees was a little too sour and underflavored for my taste. I want the strawberry flavor to really pop with the mint. Their versions was really soda watery and sour... pass!
The best reason to go is to take the beautiful photos! I really loved the wings painted on the wall but it was really hard to take photos because there isn't much space between tables and the wall. The place was packed and I didn't want to invade other people's space to take my photos. Hopefully, you, can still enjoy the ones I took. =D Cheers!

Tea Bar Metro is my new addiction. I have been to the Tea Bar Jungle in Rowland Heights many times but recently I really like this location because they have a bunch of innovative concoctions that are quite tasty. Warning : Their drinks are good but not cheap. The good this is that they use these super durable cups that are almost like regular cups and they also offer a Yelp check-in for one free large drink upgrade.

Inside the Mitsuwa in Torrance they have a few stands to check out before or after you shop or if you are stopping by for a quick snack. They have a huge seating area for customers. Yamamotoyama is a popular place that people like to stop by and grab a drink.
The prices are very reasonable. If you buy the normal green tea it is only $1.50, which is a pretty good steal as most tea places have quite an up-charge. There is a price difference if you want the drink sweeter, which is also reflected in the teas that you can buy to make at home. Ms. Lin Guide decided to get their normal iced green tea, which was light and refreshing. Of course I wanted the extra sweet iced green tea, which was slight more expensive but a little too sweet for even my taste. The normal iced green tea is sweet enough, so word to the wise. =)
I wished the Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa or in Irvine had this stand as the prices are very reasonable and a great drink to pick up for on the go or to enjoy with your meal. So if you are in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by! There's lots of good food in the area, especially if you like izakayas.

What else could one need but a beautifully designed cup of cappuccino? Gourmet Pigs mentioned that Ogawa Cafe was a great place to try in Boston and I saw some cute photos online. Not quite as cute as Love To Go in Los Angeles. Although I do enjoy the cute coincidence that they are on Milk Street, which seemed very fitting.
It's a very quaint place in the Financial District near Downtown Crossing and not too far from the station. I arrived closer to closing time so the cool pull out seating was already pushed back in. It would have been fun to sit on a Japanese like bleachers setting. =) Instead I sat at a table near a plug to recharge my phone. They had some convenient plugs all around so great for anyone who wants to lounge around or for the plethora of students to stay and do some work.
All in all it was a cute place but I should have asked for a specific art on my drink. I thought the drink was pretty but I wanted a cute holiday design, so if you have something in mind then just ask them. They were super friendly and when I asked about the art, the guy said that I was in luck because their best artist was on deck. Sweet! I only wished they would do the art on more than one drink, he said only the cappuccino could have it. Luckily Gourmet Pigs joined me later and got the matcha latte, which I liked a lot more. If and when I go back to Boston, I'd stop by again. =D

Rubi's Coffee & Sandwiches, Berkshires : Recommended By Local Distillers!
0 comments Posted by Kat at 7:27 AM
This is my first time in Massachusetts and we took a trip to the Berkshires. We stayed in a bed and breakfast inn for the night. On our way back to Boston, Gourmet Pigs wanted to visit a local distillery and they recommended Rubi's Coffee & Sandwiches. Be sure to keep an eye out for this location as it is tucked away behind their market. It can easily be missed, so if you can find their market then they can direct you to the right place.
The Grilled Cheese with comte grilled on pullman was nicely grilled on the outside but lacked a little oomph for me. I like stronger cheeses and taste. The comte they used was very light and subtle that is almost drowned out by the bread. This was definitely too bland for me. They should consider adding another stronger cheese to add flavor or a more aged comte.
We decided to share two sandwiches. I wish I looked closely at the other board that had a grilled cheese with beef. For the other sandwich we chose the Alpine with alpine cheese, cornichons, and dijon mustard on pullman. This grilled cheese sandwich was much more flavorful and very tangy. The cornichons added a nice crunch and made me shiver a little from the sourness. I thought this sandwich was much better but I am not sure if it was really worth the price difference. The regular sandwich was $5.50 and this one was $9.50. It's definitely not that much better to be double the price. Honestly, I would just buy all the ingredients from their adjacent market and make it myself as it would be much cheesier and tastier.
They offer a wide variety of baked goods that looked very tempting. The cookies were nice and plump for about $2.50 each. I thought the cookies were not bad but I like the inside to be a bit more soft and chewy on the outside. This could also be that we ate it the next day since we were filling up on goodies all the way back to Boston. I think I was also spoiled by the cookie I had at Ame's Street Deli in Boston.
I got the corn muffin as well because I was craving corn bread. To be honest... I haven't even eaten it yet because I bought so many goodies from Boston! lol It looked tasty.
As a picker upper, we both tried their fresh brewed coffee. I decided to have the macchiato for that extra punch. The coffee was strong but be warned about adding too much sugar. I overestimated how many spoons and made my drink super sweet. Luckily Gourmet Pigs had coffee and we ended up trying to blend the two drinks to even out the sweetness. =D
All in all it was a cute place and I am glad we got to try it. As for price point, I guess it isn't surprising for a tourist area. Personally I like their store much better and would definitely shop there!

For some good treats in Boston, be sure to stop by the Boston Public Market. Gourmet Pigs has some stuff to do in the morning so she dropped me off here to explore. She recommended that I try Taza Chocolate Bar. The market opens early and it was quite empty around 10 am. Towards lunch time it gets much more crowded and happening.
I decided to stop by Taza for a drink. They specialize using stone ground chocolates. We later actually went to the factory for a tour, which will be a later post ^_-.
You have many combos and choices for your drink, iced or hot. To start off you choose the type of chocolate used, either classic or seriously dark. Next comes the base from whole milk, almond milk, or water. Then they will ask for which flavor to add in. This may change depending on the holiday flavors.
For my drink, I chose the seriously dark with whole milk and fall spices iced. The drinks are mixed and made in front of you. While I was waiting for my drink order to be completed, the other lady went to help someone else and asked if she wanted samples. I felt a little jipped because nobody offered me anything >=P
All in all the drink was definitely different. The stone ground chocolate definitely has a different texture that takes some getting used to. It's almost like sandy bits at the bottom. I am not sure I was a big fan of this because I personally like a smooth and velvety drink that melts in your mouth versus something that I have to chew on.
